Position: Plant Cost Accountant

Job Overview: Performs cost accounting duties for Nichols Farms pistachio processing division.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepares cost studies and develops standard costs for major products and processes.
- Works closely with production and accounting team to define cost accounting system needs. Defines and documents production work flow. Highly involved in manufacturing system selection and implementation.
- Prepares historical cost reports and forecasts.
- Prepares analysis and reports for inventory, sales, and contracts.
- Identifies and quantifies product loss. Develops product loss reporting.
- Works with inventory control manager in developing and administering physical inventory procedures, inventory control procedures, automation, and reporting.
- Reviews cost accounting and general ledger reports for accuracy and consistency.
- Develops and documents purchasing procedures. Assures compliance with procedures.
- Reviews and approves all plant expenditures for appropriate authorization, documentation and cost coding in advance of payment.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Degree in accounting or finance with at least 5 years experience in cost accounting, preferably in a food processing environment, (or) equivalent job experience. Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills. Knowledge of Access database desirable, but not required. Systems implementation experience a big plus. Successful applicant will be a self-starter with excellent communication and analytical skills.
